Friday Favourites: 18

From graphic design to chopstick design: our round-up of this week's most interesting things.

1. Out of Doubt: Roppongi Crossing is the Mori Art Museum's famous triennial review of the Japanese contemporary art world. For the first time the Roppongi Crossing is curated by foreigners who have selected 29 artists and groups mainly born in the 1970s and '80s. These artists also include expats and artists of Japanese descent.

2. The beautifully designed food and travel publication Cereal Magazine has just launched its new website Guided, a collection of bespoke digital travel guides created by a team of international contributors. An annual subscription gives you full access to all the online guides, but London is their preview city so make sure you download the guide and start exploring as soon as you can!

3. Why not embrace the winter with a visit to the London Ice Sculpting Festival? It begins today with three competitions happening over the weekend - and it's all free!

4. The master of graphic design, Tom Eckersley, is commemorated in an exhibition at LCCfeaturing forty of his iconic posters. Eckersley began his career as a cartographer for the Royal Air Force before establishing the London College of Communication's first graphic design course, which he headed for twenty years. Eckersley is, perhaps, best known for the creation of his posters between the 1940s and the 1980s for companies which included London Transport, the United Nations and the World Wide Fund for Nature.

5. Handy new chopsticks designed by Nendo. For centuries, the lacquered chopsticks of Obama in the Fukui Prefecture of Japan have been recognised for their beauty. Now designer Nendo has given these lacquered creations a modern twist in a new collaboration with Hashikura Matsukan, a company which continues Obama's traditional manufacturing technique. Together, they have created a collection of modern chopsticks - some of which will be sold, unusually, in single units.
