Friday Favourites: 20
This week's favourites include anonymous postcards, brightly-coloured powders and a fantasy flower shop.
1. RCA Secret is back, bringing with it a host of original. postcard-sized pieces of art. This year's show includes contributions from Quentin Blake, David Bailey, Grayson Perry and Sir Paul Smith. It is a fantastic leg-up for emerging artists at the start of their careers, as well as giving art enthusiasts a chance to purchase original artworks at an affordable price.
2. Indian restaurant chain Dishoom plays host to the festival of Holi in East London this year. Traditional storytelling will be followed by the throwing of gulal (brightly-coloured powders), to transform a warehouse in Pritchard's Yard into a rainbow riot.
3. Logos Gallery in Shibuya will exhibit a number of book covers designed by a hundred illustrators, designers, artists, professionals and students in its new exhibition 100 book covers. Including contributions from designers of all ages and backgrounds, the show will reveal a range of different tastes in book cover design, all available for purchase.
4. The Museum of London's current exhibition Made in London: Jewellery Now takes a look at the work and inspiration of practising jewellers in our capital today. This free show demonstrates the imaginative breadth of jewellery being created in London, inviting its visitors to explore the process and examine the influence of the city itself on these creations.
5. Harajuku’s Rocket is transformed into a fantasy flower shop by flower designer Megumi Shinozaki (creator of Eden Works) and illustrator Fumihito Toba, who weave an intimate collaboration through the two floors of the gallery space. The first floor is filled with select cut flowers and potted plants, along with illustrations and original wrapping paper available for purchase, while the second floor is devoted to an exhibition of flowers and drawings. This flower shop also features original goods, such as triangle shaped tote bags, canvas collages and flower dioramas, and is accompanied by a stimulating series of events and workshops.
