Friday Favourites: 16
This week's picks range from childhood toys to erotic art, with a sprinkle of Seventies disco thrown in for good measure.
1. Trans Art Tokyo has returned to Tokyo's Kanda district, an art festival which plays host to a diversity of exhibitions and events at eleven different locations. Whatever your discipline - architecture, fashion, fine or performance art - you will find something here for you.
2. Shunga: Sex and Humour in Japanese art, 1600 - 1900 is a new exhibition at the British Museum, open until January 2013. Shunga is a word of Chinese origin - meaning 'spring pictures - which is given to Japanese erotic art. You might find in this exhibit things to titillate, wonder at and amuse; whatever you discover, it is certainly worth a visit.
3. Time Out Tokyo has just launched its first issue, which will be distributed free of charge at 300 locations around Tokyo. This issue is devoted to exposing why Tokyo is 'the Greatest City in the World'. Make sure not to miss its exploration of this metropolis' many undiscovered treasures.
4. Have you ever wondered what happened to all those toys which were confiscated from you at school? It's quite possible that they have ended up at the Museum of Childhood, as part of its new exhibition Confiscation Cabinets!
5. Lastly - and we're sure plenty of you are thinking it today - let's join Seventies disco singers Love and Kisses in thanking God it's Friday!
